New Honda Civic Si spotted on video testing in the hills of Ohio - CNET

pret.indah.link

We got our first taste of the 11th-gen Honda Civic a couple weeks ago after seeing a nearly production-ready "prototype" version of the sedan. But, Honda's busy working on the Civic variants to come, as evidenced by new video showing the new Civic Si testing in Ohio.

A user on the Civic XI forum uploaded video of the new Si model cruising through Hocking Hills, which isn't terribly far from Honda's research and development headquarters in Ohio. This person had the same idea as the Honda engineers driving the Si mules: It was time to hit some lovely driving roads.

The video is short but sweet, and shows the new sedan off briefly. The fascia a little more chiseled, but it's hard to make out any details from the video alone. Honda definitely tried to disguise these cars as BMWs, though, judging by the camouflage wrap mimicking the German marque's signature kidney grilles. There's no denying the cars are Civic Si variants, though, when comparing them to the sedan prototype shown off earlier this month. Additional photos uploaded to the forum also reveal a spoiler at the back, but the driver didn't get a good look at the car's rear end.

The new Civic is meant to have a formal reveal earlier next year, and the new Civic hatchback shouldn't be far behind it. Then, we'll likely get a look at the new Si. Perhaps with the Civic coupe out of the picture, Honda will give us a Civic Si hatchback, too. A guy can dream.

Now playing: Watch this: 2020 Honda Civic Si: Sharp performance and an excellent...

Honda Helps Protect Big Darby Nature Preserve with 90-acre Land Donation - PRNewswire

pret.indah.link

"As citizens of this watershed, it's imperative we do our part to protect it," said Tom Shoupe, executive vice president of Honda of America.  "Honda understands the significance of this property and will continue to protect and preserve the Big Darby Creek watershed."

"We want to thank Honda for the nearly $1 million in philanthropic grants we've received since this partnership began which have been invaluable in advancing our conservation and volunteer program efforts, especially here in Central Ohio," said Bill Stanley, state director for The Nature Conservancy in Ohio. "We thank Honda for this generous donation of land, which adds a critical piece to the conservation puzzle and grows our Big Darby Headwaters Nature Preserve to more than 1,000 acres."

The Big Darby Headwaters preserve protects the humble cold water springs and streams that combine to form the headwaters of Big Darby Creek. Big and Little Darby Creeks are noted nationally for their tremendous diversity and abundance of both aquatic and terrestrial plants and animals. They are home to 86 species of fish, five of which are endangered in Ohio. Forty-one species of freshwater mollusk live in these waters, eight of which are on the Ohio endangered list.

The Big Darby Creek is one of the healthiest tributaries to the Scioto River, which provides drinking water for tens of thousands of Ohioans. The Big Darby Creek watershed is one of the healthiest and most diverse aquatic systems of its size in the Midwest.

Honda Support of Big Darby Preservation with the Ohio Nature Conservancy

Honda's efforts with The Nature Conservancy in Ohio to protect the headwaters of the Big Darby Creek and other initiatives have included donations of over $1 million over the course of the past 30 years:

1991 – $100,000 contribution for watershed support
1996 – $30,000 for volunteer watershed protection program
2002 – $20,000 for stream monitoring of the Big Darby Creek
2006 – $300,000 to restore the headwaters of the Big Darby Creek
2010 – $200,000 for additional restoration work
2012 – $100,000 for improved access at Big Darby
2013 – $75,000 for environmental stewardship
2018 – $90,000 for operational support
2020 – Donation of 90 acres of land valued at over $280,000

Even a Toyota Prius Gets Serious After a Honda K-Series and Manual Swap - The Drive

pret.indah.link

Extra horsepower and a third pedal can turn an otherwise humdrum hybrid into a tool to provoke HOAs.

YouTube | EmeliaHartford

Sometimes we like things simple, steady, and predictable—an alarm clock that goes off at six, oatmeal for breakfast and an economical car to drive to work. At others, we like the chaos of novelty, like bailing on work early to dive into projects that drag on 'til late. The pursuit of this is presumably what drove YouTube vlogger Emilia Hartford and crew to exchange the heart of her Toyota Prius for something more exciting: A Honda K-series engine.

Though far from extreme by swap standards, the well-supported K24 nevertheless proved a not-quite-straightforward addition, as documented on Hartford's YouTube channel. She and her shop crew spent the most recent episode of their build series trying to fire the engine to life, which despite being done with a "plug-and-play" harness, required significant modification—a problem familiar to anyone with even a remotely ambitious build under their belt.

As much of the video is standard vlog fare with a seasoning of the wrenching or technical commentary you clicked for, we've embedded at the timestamp where the Prius actually fires to life for the first time.

While the lack of an exhaust system, throttle linkage, or axles meant that the Prius couldn't be driven day-of, all these have seemingly been addressed since this video's mid-month upload, with an Instagram post dated Sunday showing Hartford driving the K-swapped Prius at last. Hopefully her next step is to see how it tackles trails—they make lift kits for these bad boys, after all.

Baguette Rejoins Honda Lineup for Kyalami 9H – Sportscar365 - Sportscar365

pret.indah.link

Photo: Dirk Bogaerts/SRO

Bertrand Baguette has rejoined Honda Racing’s Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli driver lineup for the Kyalami 9 Hour season finale next weekend.

Baguette, who finished third in this year’s Super GT standings, replaces Dane Cameron in the factory Honda NSX GT3 Evo alongside Renger van der Zande and Mario Farnbacher.

It will mark the Belgian’s first IGTC appearance since the Kyalami round last year.

Cameron is unable to make the trip to South Africa because of conflicting Acura DPi testing commitments with Meyer Shank Racing at Daytona next week.

Van der Zande, Farnbacher and Cameron contested the first three rounds of the four-event IGTC season together at Bathurst, Indianapolis and Spa-Francorchamps.

The trio scored a third-place finish in the inaugural Indianapolis 8 Hour before reaching the top ten at the Total 24 of Hours of Spa.

At the start of the season, Honda announced Baguette as part of a four-man IGTC crew that would be adjusted depending on drivers’ availabilities throughout the year.

Baguette’s role in Super GT, which he contested with Koudai Tsukakoshi in a Keihin Real Racing Honda NSX-GT GT500, took precedence for much of 2020 and required the Belgian to stay in Japan to avoid being caught out by the country’s ban on arrivals from Europe that was put in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the conclusion of the Super GT campaign last weekend, Baguette is now available to make his first IGTC outing in just over a year.

Van der Zande and Farnbacher are seventh in the IGTC drivers’ championship heading into the season finale and are in mathematical contention for the title with 12 points separating them from the top of the table and 25 points at play.

Can't use Your Yamaha in the Winter? Abarth Has the Perfect Alternative - autoevolution

Abarth 595 Monster Energy YamahaAbarth 595 Monster Energy YamahaAbarth 595 Monster Energy YamahaAbarth 595 Monster Energy YamahaAbarth 595 Monster Energy YamahaAbarth 595 Monster Energy Yamaha
It is called the Abarth 595 Monster Energy Yamaha, a limited series performance car that celebrates the partnership between the carmaker and the MotoGP racing team.

It is aesthetically inspired by the livery of the 2020 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s YZR-M1, featuring a dual color blue and black color scheme with the Monster “claw” on the hood, a tribute to the energy drink that sponsors the racing team. The dominant dark colors are contrasted with tar cold gray accents found on the door handles, side mirrors and bumper vents.

The interior is graced by a race car-inspired flat-bottom steering wheel, new Abarth sports seats with blue finishes, and the “Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP” logo on the head restraints, while the dashboard features discrete blue lining that complements the unique color theme.

The small hot hatch is powered by a performance-tuned 1.4-liter inline-four T-jet engine capable of producing 165 hp (121 kW; 168 PS) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque aided by a mighty Garret GT 1446 turbo. It is available with a classic five-speed manual or an optional five-speed robotic sequential transmission.

The nimble little 595 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in 7.3 seconds with the manual gearbox and is a second slower with the automatic. Maximum speed is electronically limited to 218 kph (136 mph).

A Sport-mode button is added to the cockpit and it enables the engine to deliver maximum power, it recalibrates the power steering system to make it stiffer and helps the Record Monza exhaust system with active valve technology deliver a surprisingly mean, big-engine sound.

The suspension was also tuned for increased performance and features sport springs along with Koni shocks equipped with frequency selective damping valve technology that increases road holding, handling, and stability, helping to deliver a unique driving experience. The system uses a McPherson layout in the front and twisting axle set-up in the rear, both controlled by high-rigidity stabilizing bars.

The braking system features 284-mm front and 240-mm rear self-ventilating rotors hugged by Bosch calipers. A Brembo upgrade kit is also available featuring perforated floating rotors and high-performance calipers.

To make this the most convenient daily driver for superbike enthusiasts, Abarth delivers the latest version of the 7" HD Uconnect infotainment system complete with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.

It comes with the Abarth Telemetry system built-in, allowing drivers to monitor the performance of the car. Also included is a unique, special-series splash screen, displaying the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP logo on the start-up screen.

The new Abarth 595 Monster Energy Yamaha is exclusive from every point of view, with production being limited to 2,000 units. To honor this, a custom numbered plaque is fitted on the central console, between the front seats.

Since winter is here and most riders cannot enjoy their bikes in the cold season, this special edition Abarth 595 is the perfect alternative, guaranteeing a hugely entertaining driving experience in a small but gorgeous MotoGP-inspired package.

Yamamoto: Fuji conclusion "cruel", but we deserved title - Motorsport

pret.indah.link

Yamamoto and Makino were crowned champions after a dramatic denouement to Sunday's race, as Ryo Hirakawa dramatically ran out of fuel within sight of the chequered flag.

Hirakawa and his teammate in the #37 TOM'S Toyota, Kenta Yamashita, had commanded the 65-lap contest up to that point, although Yamamoto had been able to whittle down what had been a 15-second advantage for Hirakawa to just two seconds with three laps remaining.

Read Also:

Speaking in the post-race press conference, Yamamoto said: "In terms of speed alone, car 37 was faster in qualifying and even in the race their speed was worthy of the championship.

"But, while discussing tyre and fuel consumption [with the team] on the radio, I was always trying to find out when to increase the pace. I think I was rewarded for that at the end.

"Considering the state of mind of the #37 crew, I think the result was quite cruel, and when I think about them it’s hard to be openly overjoyed.

"But it was a straight fight and it was a race in which we put everything together until the chequered flag. I think it was our #100 car that won the race [rather than simply the 37 car losing it], and I think it was the final reward for fighting hard all season."

Hirakawa had looked well-set for the crown after qualifying, as he scored the bonus point for pole on a day that Toyota GR Supras locked out the top four to give himself a one-point buffer at the head of the standings going into the final race.

Yamamoto and Makino had qualified seventh as the best of Honda's three title-contending crews, leading Yamamoto to declare that the marque's hopes of lifting the title in its first season with the new front-engined NSX-GT had been dealt a "heavy blow".

But a strong first stint from Makino, in which he moved up to second before coming in at the start of the pit window on lap 22 to hand over to Yamamoto, laid the foundations for Team Kunimitsu and Honda to snatch the title from Toyota.

"At the start I thought I would have trouble warming up the tyres, and indeed I was slower at first than those around me, I think I dropped a position," recalled Makino of the early laps.

"Also I was attacked from behind, but I managed to hang on. But in the latter half of the stint, I was stronger than the cars around me. In that sense, I think we were able to make a strong car for the end of the race with the tyre selection and set-up."

#100 RAYBRIG NSX-GT

Having been jumped in the pitstop phase by the #14 Cerumo Toyota that didn't change tyres at all, Yamamoto briefly dropped to fourth behind the second TOM'S car of Yuhi Sekiguchi during his stint as he tried to save the fuel needed for his 43-lap stint.

Even after contact between Sekiguchi and Sho Tsuboi at Turn 1 at the start of the 31st lap allowed Yamamoto back up to second, the Honda driver said he still had to be mindful of not going on the attack against Hirakawa too early.

"I think each car entered the pits after the minimum number of laps, but I knew from the start how important the laps with a full tank would be," he said. "Around that time, when I was fighting car 36, I was trying to hold position while saving the tyres and fuel.

"Car 36 had good pace and I couldn’t save enough fuel while staying ahead, and if I could have done that maybe I could have attacked one or two laps earlier, and I might have caught car 37 by myself. But if I had attacked a lap or two earlier, I might also have ran out of fuel.

"Actually, we only had enough fuel to make it halfway round the slowing-down lap, but I was able to get to the chequered flag properly, and it was the ideal race."

Yamaha calls for uninterrupted supply chain - Telegraph India

pret.indah.link

Ravinder Singh, senior vice-president, said the system would require some investment, proper training and upskilling

The company registered sales of 11,613 units in May and 29,539 units in June, which prompted the company to revise its annual domestic sales target to 5 lakh units for 2020 from 6.5 lakh units

Yamaha Motor India has called for a resilient supply chain system locally which will cater to the requirements of all original equipment manufacturers (OEM).

“This would require some investment, proper training and upskilling but would be beneficial to a greater extent for the entire industry,” Ravinder Singh, senior vice-president, Yamaha Motor India, told The Telegraph.

Underlining the importance of an uninterrupted supply of parts from suppliers in order to sustain a seamless operation, Singh said: “Initially, when we were planning to resume our manufacturing operations in May, we came across several challenges. Availability of manpower for in-house manufacturing was one of the biggest challenges. Resuming operations of the suppliers was another challenge as many were caught in containment zones that led to a whole new difficulty in ensuring a smooth supply chain.”

The company registered sales of 11,613 units in May and 29,539 units in June, which prompted the company to revise its annual domestic sales target to 5 lakh units for 2020 from 6.5 lakh units it had targeted in January 2020. In 2019, it had sold 6,24,000 units.

Why Did Honda Buy EV Credits From Tesla? - InsideEVs

pret.indah.link

A Honda spokesperson said that pooling with Tesla is an additional measure to reach compliance.

This article comes to us courtesy of EVANNEX, which makes and sells aftermarket Tesla accessories. The opinions expressed therein are not necessarily our own at InsideEVs, nor have we been paid by EVANNEX to publish these articles. We find the company's perspective as an aftermarket supplier of Tesla accessories interesting and are happy to share its content free of charge. Enjoy!

Posted on EVANNEX on November 29, 2020 by Charles Morris

The day of reckoning is at hand for automakers selling in the European market. EU emissions regulations are tightening, and the law provides for substantial fines for automakers that can’t comply—in some cases, as much as €2,375 per car sold. This is why European automakers have been announcing so many new electrified models, and EV sales have been soaring (and we all thought it was because car buyers were concerned about climate change!).

Source: Honda / Tesla

For Honda, an electrification laggard that has only a minor presence (about a 1% market share) in the European market, the car that was supposed to bring it into compliance is the Honda e. Alas, sales of the new EV have been lackluster—only around 1,000 units year-to-date, according to the European Electric Car Report.

By all accounts, the Honda e is a fine car—CleanTechnica calls it “an engineering tour de force from Team Honda.” Top Gear reports that it’s loaded with the latest technological goodies, including 100 kW DC fast charging, an impressive menu of driver assistance systems and a generous-size touchscreen.

The problem seems to be the competition. The Honda e is a compact city car that sports a 35.5 kWh battery pack and either 134 bhp or 152 bhp of power. Where it comes up short is its range, which tops out at 137 miles. The similarly-priced, similar-size Renault Zoe offers 245 miles (on the WLTP testing cycle), and is the best- or second-best-selling model in many European markets.

Source: Honda

In what may or may not be a related development, Honda has opted to follow its fellow electro-skeptic Fiat Chrysler in joining Tesla’s zero-emissions credit pool. This is equivalent to buying ZEV credits in California—an alternative for automakers who can’t or won’t sell enough of their own EVs to meet the emissions regulations and avoid paying fines.

In 2019, Fiat Chrysler reached a deal with Tesla that involves paying the California EV-maker hundreds of millions of euros. It’s unknown how much Honda will be shelling out. Other automakers are wheeling and dealing as well— Ford will be pooling its fleet with Volvo, which expects to have a surplus of credits.

A Honda spokesperson said that pooling with Tesla is an additional measure to reach compliance. The company is also launching electric and hybrid versions of its CR-V and Jazz models.

Rumors Of All-New Honda S2000 Grow Stronger - Forbes

pret.indah.link

The iconic Honda S2000 starred in the hit movie 2 Fast 2 Furious, is a must-have car in the driving game Gran Turismo, and sold over 70,000 units in the U.S. over a ten year span. It also just happens to be one of the best handling sports cars of the 2000’s and was much lauded for its high-revving 2.0-liter engine and industry-leading tight, short-throw 6-speed manual gearbox. When it went out of production in 2009, enthusiasts everywhere started enquiring about a second generation model.

Well that wait may be over. According to a source close to Honda, the brand’s marketing gurus are seriously considering the launch of a next-generation S2000 that could surface to celebrate the coupe’s 25th anniversary in 2024. But it will have a lot more power.

Based on the now-out-of-production model, a 20th Anniversary Prototype S2000 was revealed at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon back in January to celebrate the car’s anniversary and to keep expectation levels high for a possible future comeback.

Just how much the Covid pandemic will delay plans for the car’s introduction are unclear, but the small niche market for reasonably priced sports cars remains strong.

Body proportions for the new S2000 will apparently remain similar to the original model, but with slimmer headlights and more aluminum and carbon-fiber will be used in construction to keep weight down below 3000 lbs.

The juiciest details will undoubtedly surround the car’s expected powertrain. In contrast to the original coupe’s 250 hp naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, the new model is strongly rumored to employ a tweaked version of the current Civic Type R’s 2.0-liter turbo that pumps out 320 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the S2000’s drivetrain would have to be re-engineered from the Type R’s front-drive to the S2000’s rear-drive format, but one source mentioned that a figure of 350 hp was being considered. Obviously the Civic Type R’s brilliant, close ratio 6-speed manual transmission would be carried over to the new S2000.

Who can forget the nail-biting street race scene in 2 Fast 2 Furious in which Suki drove a heavily modified, bright pink S2000 against a Nissan Skyline GT-R, a Toyota Supra and a Mazda RX-7, and ended up jumping a bridge to avoid placing last in the race. A new, sleeker, gutsier S2000 would be a fitting tribute to that car and be the perfect way to celebrate the S2000’s 25th birthday in 2024.

Fuji Super GT: Honda beats Toyota to title on finish line - Motorsport

Yamamoto stole a last-gasp victory from the #37 TOM'S GR Supra of Hirakawa and Kenta Yamashita that had dominated the majority of the race, as Hirakawa ran out of fuel exiting the final corner on the last lap.

It meant the Team Kunimitsu squad scored its second GT500 title in three years, with Yamamoto and Makino following up on the success that Yamamoto achieved in 2018 alongside Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button, and in the final race for long-time sponsor Raybrig.

It's also Honda's fifth title in SUPER GT's top class and its first with a front-engined car since 2010, coming in the first season with its new-for-2020 NSX-GT.

How the race unfolded

Yamashita took the start from pole in the #37 car, but on the opening lap he dropped to second behind Ronnie Quintarelli in the works Nissan GT-R.

Quintarelli had a storming first lap from sixth on the grid, gaining two places in the opening corners and then sweeping around the outside of three Toyotas - Yamashita, Heikki Kovalainen's SARD car and Sacha Fenestraz in the #36 TOM'S car - into Turn 10.

However, Nissan's time out front was short-lived, as Quintarelli in the Michelin-shod car was soon caught by the Bridgestone-equipped Toyotas. On lap seven Yamashita re-passed Quintarelli and by the end of that tour the outgoing champion was 2.6 seconds to the good.

Two laps later he was five seconds in the clear, as Quintarelli came under attack from Fenestraz in the battle for second. Kovalainen meanwhile had been eliminated from contention after sustaining damage in a collision with Fenestraz.

As Quintarelli fell down the order, apparently struggling with tyre pick-up, Yamashita's advantage over the chasing pack rose to 18s when the pit window opened on lap 22.

But there was another scare for the #37 crew when they were leapfrogged by the #14 Cerumo Toyota of Sho Tsuboi and Kazuya Oshima, who gained a huge chunk of time by electing not to change their Bridgestone tyres in the pits.

Tsuboi, who had moved up to a net second with the fast stop, took advantage of his warmer tyres to pass a struggling Hirakawa on his out lap at Turn 3.

But Hirakawa struck back just one lap later at the same corner, and proceeded to build a 15s advantage over the field in the first half of his stint.

Tsuboi was rapidly reeled in by the #36 TOM'S Toyota, now driven by Yuhi Sekiguchi, and another bout of intra-Supra contact - this time at Turn 1 - left the Cerumo car with ultimately terminal damage and promoted Yamamoto to the status of Hirakawa's closest challenger.

By lap 54, Yamamoto had got the gap down to less than 10 seconds, and the differential started to fall by a second a lap in the closing stages. With three laps remaining, Hirakawa's margin was down to just two seconds.

Hirakawa had appeared to stem the tide and looked on course for victory until his Toyota dramatically slowed exiting the final corner in scenes reminiscent of the marque's Le Mans 24 hours defeat in 2016. Both Hirakawa and Yamamoto stopped on track on the slowing-down lap, suggesting that the two leading cars had run out of fuel.

Coasting over the line in second, Hirakawa lost the chance to become SUPER GT's first solo champion since Ryo Michigami in 2000 - which would have been a result of regular teammate Nick Cassidy being forced to miss the final two races of the year for Formula E testing.

Sekiguchi came home for the final spot on the podium in the second TOM'S car he shares with Fenestraz, 16s down at the finish.

Real Racing Honda pair Bertrand Baguette and Koudai Tsukakoshi recovered from their qualifying position of 12th to finish fourth, ahead of ARTA pair Nirei Fukuzumi and Tomoki Nojiri, but lacked the race pace needed to challenge for the title.

Best of the Nissans at the finish was the #3 NDDP/B-Max GT-R of Katsumasa Chiyo and Kohei Hirate in sixth, followed by the Impul car of Daiki Sasaki and Kazuki Hiramine.

From fourth on the grid, the sole remaining Cerumo Toyota of Yuji Tachikawa and Hiroaki Ishiura had a race to forget, slipping to an eventual eighth ahead of the NISMO Nissan of Quintarelli and Tsugio Matsuda.

Ritomo Miyata and Yuji Kunimoto clinched the final point in the best-placed of the Yokohama-shod cars, the Bandoh Toyota.

GT300: Kondo pair come from behind to win title

Kondo Racing Nissan drivers Joao Paulo de Oliveira and Kiyoto Fujinami took the title in GT300 with a second-place finish in class behind the Saitama Toyopet Toyota GR Supra.

Kohta Kawaai and Hiroshi Yoshida put on a clinic in their JAF GT300-spec Supra, leading by as much as 34 seconds at one stage en route to a second win of the season to follow on from their triumph in the Fuji season opener.

Fujinami meanwhile made steady progress from seventh on the grid, moving up to fourth place before making his pitstop on lap 24 to hand over to de Oliveira.

The LEON Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Naoya Gamou and Togo Suganami meanwhile vaulted from fifth to second by virtue of not changing tyres during their stop, which meant that de Oliveira needed to finish third to assure himself and Fujinami of the title.

By the time the pitstops had shaken out, de Oliveira was fourth and facing a 10-second deficit to the third-placed Inging Motorsports Toyota 86 MC of Kazuto Kotaka.

But the Brazilian made short work of the gap and made the crucial pass on lap 52, before closing on a struggling Gamou and passing for second three laps later.

Kotaka then demoted the LEON Mercedes a further position before the finish to give Inging a second podium finish in its debut season, while the D'station Aston Martin Vantage GT3 of Tomonobu Fujii and Takuro Shinahara scored its best result of the year in fifth place.

Of the other title contenders, the works Subaru BRZ was only eighth at the finish despite leading the first eight laps in the hands of Hideki Yamauchi, while the ARTA Honda NSX GT3 that started from the back of the grid after an engine change was seventh.

Faring even worse were Gainer Nissan pair Katsuyuki Hiranaka and Hironobu Yasuda, who made an unscheduled second pitstop on their way to 18th.
