Honda will withdraw from Formula 1 after the upcoming 2021 season, but it doesn’t intend to go out with a whisper. Technical director Toyoharu Tanabe says that Honda, which provides engines for both the Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri teams, has set for itself a clear target: more race wins and a championship victory.

“As previously announced, at the end of next season, Honda will pull out of Formula 1. But our goal remains the same: to win the World Championship. Along with our partner teams we will now be working very hard during what will be a very short off-season in the search for more performance, so that we can come back stronger,” Tanabe said.

Pit Stop: The best place to service your non-race car

In 2020, Honda recorded three wins and 14 podium finishes, up from three wins and 11 podiums in 2019. Red Bull Racing finished as the clear second-best team, and its driver Max Verstappen would likely have finished second ahead of Valtteri Bottas if not for a streak of bad luck; nonetheless, clinching either the driver’s or manufacturer’s championship in 2021 will be a major challenge.

Tanabe says that Honda is hard at work on developing its new engine, which has been increasingly reliable over the years. In 2020, Honda used only three power units per driver, the maximum amount allowed without incurring penalties. It was aided by the reduced amount of races, but it was still a massive improvement over previous years.

New Or Used: What’s the best type of Honda?

“Of course, we are developing our new power unit for 2021, not only for performance but also reliability and then we know our position is still behind the Mercedes, and then the other competitors don’t sleep during the off-season,” Tanabe said. “So we have a very short off-season this year, but everyone involved in Formula 1 makes maximum effort to win races, also the championship, so it’s not… easy to tell you we will win.”

There are some interesting driver changes that could help both the Red Bull Racing team and AlphaTauri rack in more points than in 2020. The former hired Sergio Pérez, now a proven race winner, while the latter signed rising star Yuki Tsunoda, who finished third in an impressive rookie Formula 2 season.

Even after Honda pulls out of F1, there will still be the chance that its engine wins a championship. Red Bull is currently working on a solution that would enable it to continue using the Japanese manufacturer’s power unit. Still, that is probably not be the way Honda would wish its engine to win a title.

All-New Honda HR-V / Vezel Global Version Teased Showing Interior - Motor1

pret.indah.link

A few weeks before the scheduled reveal, Honda isn't coming up short in teasing the next-generation HR-V, also known as the Vezel in its home country in Japan.

While the previous teasers gave us a glimpse of its rear end, as well as the confirmation of a hybrid version, the latest release from Honda Japan gives a sneak peek at some of its interior elements, which you could see in the gallery below.

First of which is a glimpse of the HR-V's infotainment system, which will come in the form of a familiar floating head unit. While that isn't exactly new, it can be seen in the image that it has Apple CarPlay but without a cable (or so we thought), which hints at wireless connectivity coming for the crossover. For those who prefer knobs and buttons, it seems like the global HR-V will also come with tactile knobs for HVAC and volume control.

The other teaser image shows a door panel-mounted twitter, while the last one is the glass panel for the moonroof that reaches the rear seats. The latter also previews a contrasting roof color design.

While these are all well and good, they aren't guaranteed to come with the US-spec HR-V. This also holds true for the hybrid version, though it isn't a long shot to think so.

Of note, American Honda has already confirmed that North America will have a different version of the crossover, which "will be designed to meet the distinct needs of U.S. customers."

Details are scarce for the US-spec HR-V at this point, but we expect to hear from American Honda soon since development is underway. As for the rest of the world, expect to see the HR-V/Vezel on its world premiere on February 18, 2021.

Four teams representing Honda in racing championships across the U.S.

Honda Announces 2021 Off-Road Racing Teams

This is a press release from Honda…

Torrance, CA (January 29, 2021) – American Honda today announced its lineup of off-road racing teams, some of which have already begun competing in various 2021 racing series. As before, off-road legend Johnny Campbell is serving as Off-Road Coordinator, providing guidance to the Honda off-road teams, sharing his knowledge and collaborating with testing.

Campbell’s own JCR Honda team will also continue to race. Preston Campbell is campaigning both the NGPC and NHHA series, aboard the CRF450RX and CRF450X, respectively. Preston already took part in the opening rounds of both series, finishing ninth and fourth in the Pro class. In addition, 2020 Dakar Rally winner and Monster Energy Honda rider Ricky Brabec will take part in selected U.S. races between his international rally competitions, riding for JCR in events like the AMA District 37 Sprint Enduro series. Also taking part in selected events are Tarah Gieger, Kendall Norman and Johnny Campbell himself.

The Mark Samuels-owned SLR Honda team is expanding its project for 2021, with several new riders competing in new classes and championships. The team is best known for its domination of the SCORE International Off-Road Racing series, in which it has gone undefeated over the last three years aboard the CRF450X, including victories in the prestigious Baja 1000. That program will continue this season, as will efforts in the NGPC and WORCS series, with Cole Martinez in the Pro class aboard a CRF450RX and Tallon LaFountaine defending his NGPC 250 Pro title aboard a CRF250RX. The team has also added up-and-coming riders Evan Stice and Allen Mendelssohn, competing in NGPC’s 250 A class and WORCS’s Pro Am class, both of which Stice topped at those championships’ respective series openers. In addition, the team is entering the NHHA series in 2021, with CRF450X-mounted Justin Morgan—a desert-racing veteran with a number of Baja victories.

Honda’s off-road program isn’t limited to two-wheel racing, as Jeff Proctor’s Honda Off-Road Factory Racing team is continuing its Talon 1000R side-by-side program for a second season in 2021, featuring a new, rotating lineup of specialist drivers. Once again, the team is taking part in selected premier events across a variety of series, beginning with the February 4 UTV King of the Hammers, a unique event in the technical terrain of Johnson Valley, California, where Ultra 4 veterans Bailey Cole and Jordan Pellegrino will drive. The team will then kick off its desert-racing season in early April, when desert specialist Zach Sizelove will take the wheel. A second desert driver (a seasoned Baja specialist) will be announced in late February. Other scheduled events for the team include the SCORE International Baja 500 and 1000, plus Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno and the UTV World Championships.

“Honda has a proud heritage in off-road racing, in part because these events’ brutal conditions are the perfect test of our products’ durability and performance,” said Brandon Wilson, Manager of Advertising and Motorcycle Sports at American Honda. “Between JCR Honda, SLR Honda, Phoenix Racing Honda and Honda Off-Road Factory Racing, we expect to see Honda CRF and Talon products on podiums across the U.S. and south of the border.”

“Honda has a solid lineup of off-road teams and riders for 2021,” Johnny Campbell added, “and I’m excited to be able to contribute by drawing upon my experience as a racer and team owner. With my history and these teams’ competitiveness, we can continue developing Honda’s products to keep Red Riders at the front of the pack.”

Each of these teams will offer trackside support for Honda-mounted amateur racers at the events in which they compete.

Yamaha SR400 'Final Edition' goes on sale in Japan - HT Auto

pret.indah.link

Yamaha has introduced the SR400 Final Edition motorcycle in the Japanese market. The SR400 was first launched in 1978 and featured rather simple aesthetics along with a design in line with the Universal Japanese Motorcycle (UJM) style. The 'Final Edition', as the name suggests, is a final send-off to the iconic Yamaha motorcycle which has stayed u production for a very long time.

(Also Read: 2021 Yamaha YZF-R15 launched in three new colours)

Before its final departure, the Japanese bike maker has introduced two limited-spec models - SR400 Final Edition and the SR400 Final Edition Limited, as a final tribute to the bike.

The bike has remained largely the same within the last 43 years and has made a cult following not just in Japan but in the Western markets as well.

At the heart of the bike sits a 399 cc, single-cylinder, SOHC, air-cooled, two-valve motor which is known to push out 23 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 28 Nm at 3,000 rpm. This engine has been rated to deliver a fuel economy of 29.7 kmpl. The transmission option available with the engine includes a five-speed gearbox.

The bike comes devoid of any modern-day features, so much so, that it doesn't even get an electric starter and continues to use kickstarter and a decompressor lever even in today's time. The fact that despite missing out on any modern-day features, the bike has remained on the assembly lines for over four decades is an achievement in itself.

The SR400 Final Edition costs 605,000 Japanese Yen (around 4.21 lakh), while the higher-spec Final Edition Limited comes at a price tag of 748,000 Japanese Yen (around 5.20 lakh).

Honda Ridgeline moves toward the mainstream - Automotive News

pret.indah.link

LOS ANGELES — Honda's Ridgeline has long been odd truck out in the growing midsize pickup segment.

It is based on a front-wheel-drive unibody crossover. Its crew-cab looks are angular and soft. And for a small truck, it is remarkably roomy and fun to drive, thanks to its car-based platform.

But America's pickup buyers vote with their wallets for tall, chunky and relatively cramped rear-wheel-drive competitors with body-on-frame architecture and a bouncy ride. Exhibit A is the Toyota Tacoma, with sales of 238,806 last year for the top spot in the category.

For 2021, Honda will try to split the difference, introducing a midcycle exterior design freshen that moves the product closer to its better-selling competitors.

The Ridgeline going on sale this week has new sheet metal from the front roof pillars forward, a flatter hood, squared nose and upright grille.

To burnish its truck credentials, it will also come standard with all-wheel drive.

But the pickup now also carries a base price of $37,665 with shipping — the highest entry price in its segment.

Industry analysts say the new look is the right move for Honda, but it still leaves the Ridgeline in a lonely space. Hyundai and Ford are now working on compact, unibody lifestyle pickups with much lower sticker prices, while the midsize crowd is getting bigger and more rugged with each redesign.

"It is a solution that's a little off-center but also has some packaging and comfort benefits," IHS Markit principal automotive analyst Stephanie Brinley said of the Ridgeline move. "Honda's expectations are relatively modest. I don't think they really believe the truck is going after hardcore truck owners. Having a more rugged look is in alignment with current truck trends."

Ridgeline sales last year were 32,168 — sixth place among the seven pickups in the category. Every other entry was a body-on-frame design touting trucklike tasks such as towing and off-road driving. And most of Honda's rivals have stripped base models that start around $28,000 with shipping, although they don't include the extensive list of standard equipment on the Honda.

Honda's first stab at the Ridgeline was discontinued in 2014. The model is now in its second generation, which started with the 2017 model year.

Generally, it has been highly rated by auto reviewers as an excellent choice for most buyers, even though consumers want the traditional truck look.

But Honda isn't making any excuses for the capabilities of the Ridgeline as a unibody vehicle. Indeed, the brand says it plans to update the looks of all of its light trucks to better reflect their robust construction and innovative awd system, called i-VTM4.

"We have a very strong light-truck lineup. It's just making sure that customers realize what we have, what our capability is," Art St. Cyr, vice president of automobile operations at American Honda, told Automotive News at an October event. "People don't realize what they can do."

Jay Joseph, vice president of American Honda's marketing division, said that, based on the freshening and marketing campaign, the brand is aiming for Ridgeline sales of 50,000 a year.

Honda is leveraging its long history as a maker of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, generators and other outdoor equipment as part of the marketing effort. In one video ad, the Ridgeline carries two motorcycles along a rocky mountain road and crosses a stream.

At the same time, Honda has developed a new version of the Ridgeline for 2021 in collaboration with its performance arm, Honda Performance Development. The HPD package adds $2,800 to the price and features black fender flares and a unique grille treatment for an even boxier look.

While some Honda dealers in the past have put a body-on-frame pickup on their wish list, the automaker hasn't shown interest in that kind of investment. For now, the Ridgeline freshening seems to be well received by retailers and could result in additional sales.

"Dealers were asking for a Ridgeline with a more aggressive stance," said William Feinstein, chairman of the Honda National Dealer Advisory Board and president of Planet Honda in Union, N.J.

"The issue with the Ridgeline has never been its capabilities or how it drives or its performance," Feinstein said. "People love the vehicle. It frankly just wasn't packaged well enough. ... They've addressed a lot of those issues, and I expect the Ridgeline to do very well."

The freshened pickup also is an early example of where the brand intends to go with updated designs to its midsize Passport and Pilot crossovers in the short term, and perhaps to the compact CR-V when a new generation is due in a couple years, Honda executives have said.

"You're seeing a more aggressive style across all of Honda's lineup, and as we get more redesigns, I'm expecting more aggressively styled vehicles," Feinstein said.

For now, the Ridgeline continues to occupy a unique space in the market, for better or worse. And observers believe the freshened model on sale Tuesday, Feb. 2, is likely a small step in the right direction.

"As well as midsize trucks have done in recent years, their sales volumes still pale in comparison to the full-size truck market," said Jessica Caldwell, executive director of insights at Edmunds. With only a smaller, unibody pickup, she said, "Honda will never get a piece of that high-volume, high-margin market.

"A tougher, more true trucklike appearance will help with buyer consideration," she said. "But price-to-size ratio and other options in the market will always be the Ridgeline's Achilles' heel."

Yamaha Motor Commits to Enhance Motorcycle Safety - Cycle News

pret.indah.link
Press Release | January 29, 2021

Yamaha Motor continues to cooperate with other motorcycle makers in the Connected Motorcycle Consortium to improve safety.

This is a press release from Yamaha Motor Co…

Iwata, Japan (January 29, 2021) – Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. believes, that motorcycles have a great potential as an enjoyable and practical mean of individual transport in the future. New elements of safety for the company’s products is a focus in Yamaha developments.

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. signed an agreement in December 2020 with other world leading motorcycle manufacturers to continue cooperation 2021 onwards to further enhance Motorcycle safety and assure that motorcycles maintain their role in future mobility. BMW Motorrad, Honda Motor Co. Ltd., KTM AG, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Triumph Design Ltd. expressed their intention to support the common activity in CMC ‘Next’.

The approach is widened and the work will include investigating conspicuity of motorcycle by ADAS systems. This ‘system’ approach looks at creating synergies between on-board sensor systems and connectivity.

CMC members consider safety as a goal for the industry and are in favor of a strategy on improving motorcycle rider’s safety.

CMC Basic Specification as milestone
Since its establishment in 2016, CMC has worked on a Basic Specification for motorcycle specific V2X* connectivity systems. CMC has launched this ‘CMC-Basic Specification’ on Dec 11th 2020. The Basic Specification is a first step to describe the function of motorcycle V2X systems. In a further step beyond 2020, the participating manufacturers will define further essential functional requirements to standardise in detail.

CMC-BS documents are available for download on the CMC website: https://www.cmc-info.net.

CMC ‘Next’ increases cooperation with car & other vehicle industries
A further crucial step for CMC ‘Next’ after 2020 is the cooperation with the car industry and other vehicle manufacturers since motorcycles shall communicate in a standardized way. Modern cars are increasingly equipped with on-board sensor systems (radar, camera, etc.) and driver assistance systems. These vehicle systems need to include motorcycle requirements in order to enhance their safety effects in case of mixed traffic with motorcycles.

CMC believes that tailored motorcycle/car scenarios and tests need to be developed and standardized.

The new organization has started its activity in January 2021. The six motorcycle manufacturers encourage other motorcycle manufactures, suppliers, Car manufactures and the other related organizations to join the cooperation to further pursue the deployment of new elements for motorcycle safety.

Motorcycles are part of future traffic

Executive Officer Takuya Kinoshita, Chief General Manager of Motorcycle Business Operations, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.:‘The future traffic will be increasingly connected and motorcycles cannot stay aside. Yamaha Motor is part of such future mobility. Motorcycles need to stay a solution and remain an enjoyable mean of transport for the decades to come. This is why activities like CMC are so important for the motorcycle industry. Rider safety is one of the key pillars for Yamaha and a shared activity amongst the motorcycle makers in the safety area is a prerequisite.’

Executive Officer Toyoshi Nishida, Chief General Manager of PF Model Unit, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.:‘We are aiming deployment of connectivity for motorcycles to enhance safety and at the same time to ensure riding comfort and riding pleasure by integrating motorcycles into a future traffic ecosystem’

Yamaha introduces updated V6 offshore outboards for 2021 - Japan Today

pret.indah.link

Yamaha Marine kicks off 2021 with brand new product offerings including updated V6 Offshore outboards that combine new benefits with a reliable performance legacy. The new F250 and F300 V6 Offshore Digital Electronic Control (DEC) models boast built-in Digital Electric Steering (DES), Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust (TERE) and other XTO Offshore ® -inspired features.

Yamaha introduces new, updated V6 Offshore outboards, new flush, side-mount Digital Electronic Control (DEC) for Helm Master® EX and Saltwater Series II™ HP propellers.

“The new, updated F300 and F250 4.2-liter V6 Offshore outboards now have many of the benefits previously only available on the XTO Offshore. Combining a high performance, big block V6 engine featuring outstanding power and fuel efficiency, Yamaha brings new levels of convenience and control to a proven performer,” said Ben Speciale, President, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. “The introduction of these outboards in addition to a new flush, side-mount DEC for Helm Master EX and Saltwater Series II HP propellers allows Yamaha to start the year with new innovative products that meet customer demand.”

The same smooth, fast and precise Digital Electric Steering (DES) introduced on the XTO Offshore is now built-in to F300 and F250 V6 variants. The latest boat steering technology provides smooth, fast steering and, unlike some conventional steering systems, draws battery amperage only when actively in use. DES is significantly easier to rig than conventional steering systems and creates an uncluttered bilge with no steering pumps, hoses, hydraulic lines or connections, no bleeding procedure, less complexity and straightforward serviceability. There’s also a bolt-on version of DES for conventional DEC models of the new V6 Offshore.

Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust (TERE) keeps exhaust bubbles above the anti-ventilation plate and out of the propeller below 2500 rpm when in reverse. This means the prop bites only clean water, resulting in outstanding reverse thrust and control to back down on fish. It’s especially effective when combined with the fast precision of Digital Electric Steering and Helm Master EX Full Maneuverability, which is helpful around docks and confined spaces.

Yamaha’s exclusive TotalTilt™ function allows complete tilt up from any position with a simple double push of the “UP” trim/tilt button, or full tilt down (until trim ram contact) by the same double push of the “DOWN” trim/tilt button. There’s also a new built-in integrated tilt limiter to help prevent inadvertent damage. Plus, built-in DES models tilt higher out of the water than previous models, which helps lessen the potential for corrosion.

Even after a decade of proven performance, the new 4.2-liter V6 Offshore has an improved lower unit featuring new components and design features that add durability, further increasing consumer confidence. Capitalizing on many styling cues from its big brother, the XTO-like appearance in pearlescent white or signature Yamaha gray now feature a color-matched lower unit, a new one-piece top cowling with water-draining air duct molding, a new bottom cowling and apron shape and raised chrome graphics on built-in DES models only. The new Yamaha V6 Offshore models are available beginning in February.

The new flush, side-mount DEC for the Helm Master EX system is designed to bring the benefits of Helm Master EX to a broader array of boats. Smooth, precise and easy to install, the control gives boat builders and dealers more flexibility when rigging luxury pontoons, premium dual consoles and other single engine craft where digital electronic control is desired. Customers, likewise, will enjoy its ergonomic design, useful features and comfortable operation. Yamaha’s flush, side-mount DEC for Helm Master EX is available beginning in March.

The “HP” version of Yamaha’s venerable Saltwater Series II propeller is crafted to maximize speed on certain lightweight V6 applications that are not surface piercing. Dovizioso "ready" if Honda needs Marquez replacement - Motorsport.com

pret.indah.link

Marquez underwent a third operation in December on the broken right arm which ruled him out of the 2020 MotoGP campaign, and which is likely to see him out of action until the spring.

With the season due to begin on 28 March with the first of two Qatar races as part of a partially revised calendar, Honda is likely going to need to field a stand-in for Marquez while he continues his rehabilitation.

Dovizioso is currently serving a sabbatical after losing his factory Ducati seat at the end of last year, with the 15-time MotoGP winner a free agent should Honda come knocking.

While no discussions have been had yet, Battistella says the training regime Dovizioso is undertaking ahead of a planned motocross racing campaign in 2021 means he’ll be ready to return to MotoGP action if needed.

“[Honda] hasn’t called yet, but if they do Andrea is really ready,” Battistella told Sky Italy.

“He is training motocross at an amateur level, but he is doing it with the same intensity as if he were preparing for the MotoGP pre-season.

“We will work this year to fully return in 2022.

“As far as Honda is concerned, and making it clear that both Andrea and I feel deeply [sad] about what is happening to Marc, it is clear that they [Honda] are evaluating exactly when he can reappear.

“In my opinion, they are rightly afraid of making a mistake in such a delicate situation.

“The next month will be crucial for their decision. For our part, we have rejected all offers to be a test rider and thus have freedom to do other things, and also being prepared to return to the starting grid.”

Marquez admitted late last year that his attempts to return just days after his first operation following the crash in the Spanish Grand Prix was a mistake.

HRC test rider Stefan Bradl filled in for him from the Czech GP onwards, with Marquez’s crew chief Santi Hernandez – who worked with Bradl last year - telling Motorsport.com recently the German would be a better option to replace Marquez again than Dovizioso.

Dovizioso made his MotoGP debut in 2008 on Honda machinery, before stepping up to the factory squad from 2009-2011 – scoring his first premier class win at Donington in 2009.

2001 Honda XR650R: Be like Johnny Campbell - ADVrider

pret.indah.link

Honda’s had many iconic models over the years: The CB750, the Hurricane, the Fireblade, and for those who watched Dust to Glory, the XR650R.

When Dana Brown’s film came out in 2005, it showed every aspect of the Baja 1000 desert race, but it focused on the motorcycle category, especially the Honda factory teams and privateer ironman Mouse McCoy. These guys were all riding the Honda XR650R. The Big Red Pig was already a respected performer in the desert, but this film turned the bike into a legend.

Sadly, the XR650R was offroad-only; if you wanted a street plate, you had to ride the neutered XR650L. But, some enterprising R-series owners took matters into their own hands, adding the necessary equipment to make their machines street-legal. And now, you can buy one such bike off ADVrider’s Flea Market forum, located in California.

The Big Red Pig

The Honda XR650R debuted in 2000 as an all-new machine. Honda had built the similar XR600R from 1985 through 2000, with periodic updates along that production. The 650 was more than a big-bore job mixed in with some incremental upgrades, though. It was liquid-cooled, as opposed to the previous air-cooled models. with a new aluminum frame and other clever weight-cutting measures. Honda claimed a dry weight of 280 pounds; fuelled, up, it was just over 300 pounds, more than 15 pounds lighter than recent-production CRF250L dual sport models.

Combine that low weight with a claimed 60ish horsepower at the crank (more like 45ish at the rear wheel), and you had a very impressive offroad beast. It wasn’t a woods bike (well, maybe Scott Summers might have tried it), but man, did it ever rip in the desert.

This was back in the days when Honda had more budget to play with, and could afford to build machines like the XR650R for the US market. The story is that Bruce Ogilvie, from Honda’s Project Planning Department in the US, dreamed up the XR650R project as a way to end Kawasaki’s dominance at the Baja 1000; the liquid-cooled KX500 was thrashing the air-cooled XR600R every year. Ogilvie managed to convince the Japanese head office to build the much-better XR650R. With Johnny Campbell riding and then moving into team management, Honda’s riders dominated Baja with the XR650R for years.

Obviously, Honda’s race bikes were set up differently than the machines you’d buy off a showroom floor, but even in stock form, the BRP came with respectable suspension, too. The KYB forks and shock were highly adjustable, and since the bike had been designed with desert racing in mind, it worked well for many riders right out of the box.

Unless, of course, you wanted to ride one on the street.

Some practical parts for the street, too, including that aluminum rear rack.

Street legal

That’s where this bike’s previous  owner had to get creative. To get this machine street-legal plate for California, he had to bolt on some aftermarket parts, starting with a Baja Designs dual sport kit. Since the stock charging system wasn’t made for full-power street lighting, he added a 200-watt stator and rectifier, also from Baja Designs. For gauges, he used a Vapor computer; he ditched the wimpy lead-acid battery that came stock, and installed an Antigravity battery. Not only did this make it easier to run lighting, it also allowed him to add an electric start system.

Like some of Honda’s other big-bore thumpers (XR400R, XR600R), the XR650R was kickstart-only. That’s fine if you’re a strapping racer that rarely stalls the thing anyway. It’s not so great if you’re street riding, so this Big Red Pig got a Baja Designs electric starter.

Vapor dash for a speedo and other functions.

This was all done before current owner, inmate DIYPSCM, acquired it. When he bought the bike, the PO couldn’t get it started. So, DIYPSCM went over the machine, fixing what needed to be fixed, and then focusing on reliability.

With that in mind, he added radiators from Mylars, and a cooling fan, as the big XRs have a rep for overheating. There’s a new set of silicone hoses, too. In general, the stuff that needs to be done to keep the bike trustworthy, has been done. There’s an upgraded clutch bushing, an oversized front brake, new tires, new chain, and so on.

There are a couple of practical touches as well—an aluminum rack, an oversized fuel tank, Mikuni TM40 pumper carb, and a Kouba lowering link. These bikes had a sky-high seat from the factory, and now it’s lower and easier to ride. DIYPSCM figures he’s got about 50 hours of wrenching and a thousand bucks worth of parts on it, and that doesn’t include the work done previously. There’s also about a thousand bucks’ worth of extra parts with the machine, including spare wheels, the original fuel tank and more.

A kickstarter, but the electric start is a major upgrade.

Asking price

DIYPSCM is asking $5,000 for this machine. For sure, that’s a lot of money, but it’s probably not unrealistic. This bike has a street-legal plate, and that’s not always easy to get. The aftermarket modifications should make it a very fun bike for both semi-serious offroad use and commuting duty. As the seller says, “The bike is a beast and will go shoulder-to-shoulder with pretty much anything it runs across on the dirt side. On the street side there are bikes more refined, but the XR will always get you there.” For some riders, that simpler design is preferable anyway. For a modern dual sport bike with similar performance, size and weight, you’ll spend much more money, and it’s much less DIY-friendly.

Plus, there’s the fact that XR650Rs are almost certainly going to be desirable collectables someday, if they aren’t already there.

So. If you’ve got $5k burning a hole in your pocket, you could at least look at the ad. If you’re in California, it’s hard to see how this would be a regrettable decision. This bike won’t turn you into Johnny Campbell or Mouse McCoy, but if you buy it, you can always take it down to Baja and pretend for a weekend.

Otsu set to fill Mugen Super Formula vacancy - Motorsport.com

pret.indah.link

Motorsport.com understands that Nakajima Racing SUPER GT driver Otsu is set to partner the previously-announced Tomoki Nojiri, driving the #15 car that was left unfilled when Honda announced the majority of its 2021 line-up earlier in the month.

The 26-year-old missed out on a Super Formula drive last year when he was passed up in favour of Toshiki Oyu for the vacant Nakajima seat alongside Tadasuke Makino.

However, Otsu belatedly made his race debut in last year’s Fuji Speedway season finale after being called up to replace an unwell Makino at Nakajima, finishing 13th.

Read Also:

Otsu’s anticipated arrival at Mugen marks a departure for a team that, from 2017 until the start of last year, had always fielded one of Red Bull’s junior drivers in its second car.

Current travel restrictions in place amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic make it almost impossible for any of the Austrian energy drink giant’s current proteges to race in Japan, with Juri Vips having had to abandon plans to race in Super Formula last year.

However, Red Bull's backing of the #15 car is understood to be likely to continue.

Ukyo Sasahara ended up filling in for Vips for the full 2020 campaign, but managed only one points finish in the final round of the season at Fuji Speedway.

Despite losing his drive in Super Formula, Sasahara’s relationship with Mugen will continue in SUPER GT, where he will be partnered by Oyu in 2021. Otsu meanwhile continues for a second season in the series alongside Takuya Izawa at Nakajima.

Yamaha's YC Stage Keyboards Receive Significant New OS v1.1 Update « American Songwriter - American Songwriter

pret.indah.link

If you own a Yamaha YC Series Stage Keyboard, you’ll be happy to know the manufacturer has updated its OS, adding more classic drawbar organ and authentic keyboard sounds, acoustic pianos and more Voices. The update is free and available now.

Yamaha spent time listening to many user requests for certain features. “Yamaha strives to build a relationship every time a musician buys one of our products,” Nate Tschetter, manager, Synthesizer Marketing, Yamaha Corporation of America said. “YC OS v1.1 is a direct response to feedback we’ve received from our users. By listening to our customers, we make great keyboard instruments even better.”

Yamaha YC OSv1.1

Here’s the scoop, straight from Yamaha’s announcement:

New to the YC Series in OS v1.1 are the Nashville C3 and Live CF3 acoustic grand piano Voices. The Nashville C3 is sampled from a grand piano that is small in size but huge in character and used on countless recordings in the city that bears its name. The piano was recorded at the Yamaha Entertainment Group studios in Nashville and processed with analog tape to provide distinctive warmth and “vibe.” With Live CF3, Yamaha answers a request from pop and Gospel musicians to bring back a powerful grand piano Voice from previous instruments. Live CF3 provides another variation of this powerful and celebratory concert grand piano sound.

The first of two new electric piano Voices is 73 Rd Studio, a rendition of the famous “suitcase” electric tine piano. Its tone is smooth, mellow and well suited for playing accompaniment in jazz, ballads, R&B and more. The brighter 74 Rd Stage is ideal for attention-grabbing solos and syncopated rhythm parts.

Eight new Live Sets — multi-part setups that can be stored and recalled with the touch of a button — showcase the new acoustic and electric piano Voices. YC OS v1.1 also makes improvements to pitch modulation characteristics across the board, including the ability to store the initial modulation amount as part of a Live Set and the relocation of modulation depth and speed to a more intuitive home in the “Sound” settings menu. Last but not least, pressing the Enter button while in the Settings menus “backs up” to the previous page instead of returning all the way to the display’s home screen, making adjusting settings easier.

The core YC experience of ultra-realistic tone wheel organs and rotary speaker effects based on Yamaha’s exclusive Virtual Circuit Modeling (VCM) technology is still as striking and soulful as ever.

Kamaiu Johnson lands exemption to Honda Classic after COVID-19 delayed dream of playing on tour - ESPN

pret.indah.link

Two days after COVID-19 kept Kamaiu Johnson from his dream of playing on the PGA Tour, the Honda Classic stepped forward Thursday to make sure the inspiring Black golfer gets his shot.

Johnson was the top player on the Advocates Pro Golf Association last year, and the Farmers Insurance Open awarded him a sponsor exemption to play alongside some of the best in the world at Torrey Pines.

And then he tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday and had to withdraw.

The Honda Classic, to be held March 18-21 in his home state of Florida, offered Johnson an exemption.

"As I said when I first learned that I would be forced to withdraw, a fork in the road often has an interesting way of leading to new opportunities," Johnson said. "It was beyond disappointing not to be able to play at the Farmers Insurance Open after all of the support that Farmers has shown me and the APGA Tour.

"Now, to find out that I will still have a chance to fulfill my dream of playing on the PGA Tour is almost overwhelming."

Johnson grew up in the tiny Florida town of Madison and played on a youth travel baseball team with former Chicago Cubs All-Star Addison Russell. But he dropped out of the eighth grade because he was put in a class for slow learners and felt torn down.

Living with his grandmother in a crowded two-bedroom apartment near a golf course, he was spotted swinging a stick by the city golf superintendent, Jan Auger. She made him a deal. If he helped around the club, he could play for $1 per round. For the next five years, Johnson practically lived at Hilaman Park, honing his game.

"Golf saved me," Johnson told Golf Digest last year. "It gave me a reason to live, gave me a purpose."

The APGA Tour was established 10 years ago to prepare Black and other minority golfers to compete and gain better access across the golf industry.

Johnson finished in the top 10 in the final five APGA events last year, winning its Tour Championship. He was overjoyed when the Farmers Insurance Open called to offer him an exemption in October.

A day after Johnson had to withdraw, he learned his mother was hospitalized with breathing difficulties from COVID-19.

"This is turning into a nightmare from hell," Johnson tweeted Wednesday.

He said Thursday that she was improving, and his spirits were pretty high too.

Ken Kennerly, the executive director of the Honda Classic, said he and tournament director Andrew George were familiar with Johnson from when he tried to go through Monday qualifying last year at the Honda.

"When we heard what happened to him at Farmers this week, we felt strongly that we wanted to give him a chance to play at The Honda Classic. We feel it is important to support the advancement of golfers from our home state," Kennerly said. "We have always been about growing the game of golf for young players, and Kamaiu is such an inspiration for so many of them."

Home Care Agency Relies on YVC-1000 Conference Phone to Transition Seamlessly to Online Training Format

SUDBURY, Mass. — Jan. 26, 2021 — To prevent ongoing disruption to client services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Home Instead franchise owner Michelle Rogers entrusted Yamaha Unified Communications conferencing solutions for the home care agency’s rigorous online training. After experiencing the superior audio of Yamaha’s YVC-200 personal speakerphone for its intake process, the home health agency selected the YVC-1000 USB speakerphone and Bluetooth®conference phone to provide crystal-clear audio over Microsoft® Teams in its 40-person training room.

“It’s imperative our caregivers receive the best, most comprehensive training to meet the state of California’s requirements so they can perform their jobs to Home Instead’s high standards,” Rogers said. “It was crucial to have the highest quality audio solution available in order to prevent additional delays. Yamaha not only eased the burden of online training but made it a platform I can utilize for new opportunities.”

The agency’s training space includes a studio apartment with a hospital bed with a 150-pound dummy, a corner shower unit, and a wheelchair. Home Instead trainers demonstrate how to properly lift, transfer, and assist clients. With face-to-face group training sessions no longer feasible, the YVC-1000 provide an easy-to-use and flexible audio-conferencing solution. From hands-on training rooms and classrooms to large meeting rooms, the system scales to fit the wide range of environments where video conferences are conducted. It uniquely features a separate intelligent microphone and full-range speaker unit that can be placed close to a display for naturally blended audio and video to enable full participant comprehension. Up to five distinct microphone pods (three microphones per pod) can be daisy-chained together, depending on the size and audio demands of the room.

App-free and USB or Bluetooth-enabled, the speakerphone is compatible with leading UC platforms including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, BlueJeans, Skype, and more, making it a universal solution even as security and IT demands evolve. The YVC-1000’s auto-tuning features guarantee a great far-end experience. It automatically measures and analyzes the room environment, adjusting acoustic settings to the optimal level without any additional input or programming necessary. Yamaha’s adaptive echo cancellation (AEC) and human voice activity detection (HVAD) minimize background noise.

The virtual platform has worked so well, Rogers is pursuing ongoing opportunities where it can be used. She has already partnered with another Home Instead office to lead joint virtual trainings, supported by the YVC-1000.

“Superior audio quality over a UC platform is a necessity — no matter the room acoustics, what’s happening during the call, or where it’s taking place,” said Michael Fitch, vice president of sales and marketing at Yamaha Unified Communications. “The installation at Michelle’s agency is a great illustration of what can be achieved with the YVC-1000. It’s powerful enough to produce clear, natural-sounding audio even in less-than-perfect environments but so simple that anyone can feel comfortable using it with their chosen UC application every day.”

After COVID WD at Farmers, Kamaiu Johnson Gets Exemption into Honda Classic - Golf Channel

pret.indah.link

It didn’t take long for a PGA Tour event to step up and help Kamaiu Johnson.

Two days after his Tour debut at the Farmers Insurance Open was spoiled by a positive COVID-19 test, officials at the Honda Classic announced Thursday that Johnson has been given an exemption into the tournament, scheduled for March 18-21 at PGA National.

Johnson, who has been a standout on the Advocates Pro Golf Association circuit, winning the Tour Championship last year, has been an inspirational story since – ironically – his background was first revealed prior to the open qualifier for last year's Honda Classic.

Last fall, he was offered an exemption into the Farmers Insurance Open, where he was set to make his PGA Tour debut this week. On the eve of the tournament, he tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to quarantine in his hotel. Making the story worse, he said, his mother also tested positive back home near Orlando, Florida, and was rushed to the hospital after having trouble breathing. Johnson said her condition has since improved.

“When we heard what happened to him at Farmers this week, we felt strongly that we wanted to give him a chance to play at the Honda Classic,” said tournament director Ken Kennerly. “We feel it is important to support the advancement of golfers from our home state.”

Johnson, 27, said that though he was disappointed following the Farmers withdrawal, he is thankful for the opportunity to play.

"As I said when I first learned that I would be forced to withdraw, a fork in the road often has an interesting way of leading to new opportunities," he said. "To find out that I will still have a chance to fulfill my dream of playing on the PGA Tour is almost overwhelming. I’m so thankful for Honda and the team at the Honda Classic for taking a challenging situation and turning it into a blessing.”
