Honda Power Equipment employees test positive for coronavirus, business stays open with safety measures in place.
ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Employees at an Alamance power equipment facility have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Officials at Honda Power Equipment (HPE) confirmed cases were identified at the Swepsonville, North Carolina location and addressed as early as July 6. The company remains open after leadership told its staff of the cases, and completed cleaning and disinfection of the applicable work areas and common areas in accordance with CDC guidelines, officials said.
HPE employees who may have been in contact with the employees who tested positive have been sent home, HPE officials said. To keep workers safe, the company also instituted social distancing and health and well-being practices at all of its Honda facilities.
Safety measures include:
- Mandatory temperature scanning
- Required masks and cloth face coverings
- Contact tracing
- Increased cleaning and disinfecting - this includes cleaning tools before, during and after each shift
Additionally, were applicable, HPE has instituted:
- The introduction of additional barriers in certain production areas
- Staggered shift start times, lunches and breaks
- Reduced capacity in common areas, along with appropriate spacing in office areas and remote work when feasible
