A man who police believe was street racing died when he lost control of his Honda Civic and crashed into a tree, ejecting the driver and splitting the car in half Wednesday in northwest Houston.
Witnesses spotted the man, in his 20s, racing another driver in the 10100 block of North Houston Rosslyn Road near Log Hollow Drive, according to the Houston Police Department. At some point, the Honda driver jumped a curb and struck a tree.

The force of the crash split the car in two, sending the front half of the car nearly 50 feet away.
The driver was found dead in the roadway. Police say he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the other car involved in the race did not stop. Police are working to identify that driver.
