Yamaha is now taking orders for prototype versions of its electric crate motor offering.

The brand explains that it has created two motors. One is a 35kW output motor designed for motorcycles and light mobility equipment, and the other is a 150kW motor intended for electric car applications.

Before you attempt to place an order, bear in mind that Yamaha's solution is geared to cater for other large manufactures and big businesses.

In its announcement, the Japanese manufacturer said its electric motor program includes the ability to "customise the prototype to the specific needs of individual customers and deliver in short time spans". In other words, help other brands speed-up the electrification of their current and future product ranges.

Whether Yamaha plans to offer electric motors to the private sector as 'crate motors' remains unconfirmed.

It goes on to further detail that a significant part of the development process has been to engineer "emotion" into the final product. The company claims to have achieved this by ensuring its electric motors both look and sound exciting.

Interestingly, the company has demonstrated its technology through its own EV-converted Alfa Romeo 4C development mule (shown in the video below). It appears to be powered by two of Yamaha's larger 150kW motors.

It concludes with the fact that it is accepting offers of prototype solutions in order to deepen its knowledge of "evolving market needs" by "adapting the motor to the requirement of individual customers".
