We all love a fire breathing, big-engined revvy sportsbike if we’re thinking with our hearts but for the motorcycle/two wheeler industry it’s the urban, scooter runaround that drums up the sales figures needed to make the aforementioned a reality… and they don’t even need to have two wheels.
A long time has passed since Piaggio turned the market – and various definitions – on its head with the launch of his mould-shaping MP3 three-wheeler. While trikes aren’t a new innovation, having two wheels at the front for better stability while carving through traffic like a scooter was some interesting thinking.
Oddball may be a fair way to describe the MP3 but you only have to check out your local city streets to see they’ve steadily snowballed in popularity. It’s not surprise then that other manufacturers have slowly begun to muscle in on the act, most notably Yamaha with its Tricity range.
2020 Yamaha Tricity 300 Walkaround
The latest addition to the fleet is the Tricity 300 – launched at the 2019 EICMA show in Milan - is a more powerful, more upmarket take on the existing 125 that attempts to apply all of that knowledge and signature Yamaha style into a European-friendly three-wheeler package.
With a 300cc Blue Core engine, Standing Assist System and a sportier hint than Piaggio’s more classic offering, our man Toad took to Market Harborough – in lieu of St Tropez no less – to find out if the Yamaha Tricity 300 is the next big thing about town?
