The ACCC warns the fault could lead to serious injury or death.

Honda Australia has issued a recall for 36 examples of its model-year 2019 Honda Odyssey people mover, citing a fault with the rear seat belt assembly.

According to the recall notice, which was lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), incorrect manufacturing of the rear seat belt assembly could see the webbing sensor in the third row left-rear seat belt become inoperative.

Honda says if the particular seat belt sensor fails to engage during a crash, a proper restraint may not be provided, increasing the risk of an injury to occupants.

The ACCC adds: "The hazard posed to consumers from this safety defect includes the risk that, in the event of an accident, proper restraint may not be provided to a belted occupant, increasing the risk of serious injury or death."

The affected vehicles were sold between 27 September 2019 and 10 January 2020.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact their closest Honda dealership to arrange for a free repair.

To find out if your car is affected, check to see if its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is included on this list.
