THIS IS A PROMOTED POST FROM YAMAHA UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS

Specifying audio for meeting rooms can be a huge challenge for AV teams; there are a lot of particulars with audio that often mandate the need for a specialist who can keep the system in good working order. Most AV integrators are attuned to this complexity — they also know that great sound is more than a nice microphone or sound bar. A big audio job usually includes said audio specialists managing not only the upfront design and specification work but also the actual install and fine-tuning of all components. Translation: a lot of time, resources and money.
We invite you to throw this familiar scenario out the window, as audio in collaboration spaces is changing.
Here’s the new reality: You’re probably not taking on near as many custom-audio jobs today. And it’s not just because of COVID-19; it’s because the field for AV audio integration has been evolving for some time. End users’ demand for ease of use and ease of setup is higher than ever — which goes for any AV solution in 2020, really. Like it or not, intersected IT and AV teams today hope to be able to install and service their systems without the need for costly specialist/integrator visits. Our roles in AV and IT are always changing, but end users’ smaller budgets and increased expectations mean today’s audio solutions have to meet customers where they are, not the other way around.
ADECIA — a new, complete audio solution and ceiling array from Yamaha Unified Communications — is doing the hard work of meeting customers where they are. By delivering on lower overall cost and ease of install, the system enables more customers to add high-end audio to all their meeting spaces, large or small, enclosed or open.
Read on to learn how.
AV and IT, Meet ADECIA
Why audio has traditionally been so complex makes sense when you break down the individual parts of the system. Consider all the factors: location of speakers and mics, placement of individuals in the room, number of individuals in the room. Now consider all the complications: presenters moving about the room, tables and chairs being constantly rearranged, high noise levels, reverberation, loudspeakers that are not loud enough, in-room echo, high ceilings, equipment that does not work well with other equipment. The list goes on. The cost of installing a fixed ceiling system, often supporting only one particular use case, is huge — and don’t forget you’ll need ongoing configuration changes in these traditional systems too.
If you can make setup simple and updates automatic, the traditional setbacks with meeting-room audio — drawbacks of other ceiling array systems (like time, design cost, installation cost and DSP/ceiling-tile programming) — are eliminated. Not just talking the talk, but walking the walk, ADECIA actually delivers on this vision: It auto-configures all components and optimizes them to the room environment. Because it’s a whole system as opposed to just the ceiling tile itself, the audio experience is improved by combining all the needed elements into one. The overall, massive benefit is that AV and IT teams can install more rooms at a significantly lower cost per room, while still maintaining high-end audio in each space.
So what makes up the new ADECIA family?
- A dynamic beamforming ceiling array microphone (RM-CG*) *New component
- The Yamaha UC room control processor (RM-CR*) *New component
- A Dante-optimized L2 network switch with PoE (SWR Series)
- Line-array PoE+ powered VXL Series speakers (VXL-16P)
Take a quick reading break to watch the video here — you’ll get a feel for how each component works together:
Yamaha knew that other beamforming microphone systems already on the market were expensive, in addition to not being that easy to install. Besides just sounding better, and being easier and faster to install, ADECIA achieves this and more — you might be surprised at the savings.
Importantly, ADECIA can be customized or integrated into custom environments. The number of microphones can be adjusted to cover the space. This flexibility is aided by an open control interface, whether you’re specifying the full solution or just certain components from the line to fit your requirements.
Over time (we can’t say we’d even consider it a “long” run), lower cost and more widespread adoption benefit all on the project: AV integrators, who can build business installing more solutions for more customers in more spaces; IT and tech managers, who can now work more closely with AV to install the systems in the rooms themselves, without specialized support; and end-user customers, who can afford a better audio experience in all their meeting spaces as opposed to just the token “best rooms in the office” (the ones equipped with professional audio).
Automatic Is Everything
When we say the system is automatic, here’s what we mean. ADECIA: Auto-detects installed components; auto-configures the devices into coherent solutions; and auto-optimizes and measures audio performance for the room’s audio environment.
A guided three-step process is all it takes to get up and running.
- Auto Device Detection: ADECIA automatically identifies the room components.
- Speaker Setting: The system determines left and right speakers.
- Auto Tuning: The system is then queued for the room with auto setup/tuning.
After install, dynamic multi-beam tracking technology translates into a number of benefits: Constant live-tracking beams search for voices when the system is in use, adjusting as in-room discussion take place; there’s no need to program fixed beams or lobes, meaning you don’t have to worry about dead spots; and there’s no need to pre-program lobes when the design changes, offering flexibility in any room setup. All these features result in the best audio in the shortest amount of time.
ADECIA components use network cables for easy integration with Dante and PoE technology — in other words, components utilize one network cable connection, avoiding troublesome wiring. There’s flexibility in both smaller and larger spaces, as the system supports and integrates into all audio environments: USB, analog connections like Aux in/out, Bluetooth, Dante and SIP telephony.
A number of automatic, smart audio technologies are also supported — like Human Voice Activity Detection, which identifies and eliminates noise to capture and send human voices (not rogue sounds) clearly. Another feature, speaker tracking, helps capture voices for natural communications. Also beneficial are noise reduction algorithms, automatic gain control, and adaptive acoustic echo cancellation for speech clarity and consistent audio volumes.
130 Years In the Making
Important to Yamaha when designing ADECIA was ensuring the highest-quality audio and maintaining the brand’s acoustical prowess for which it’s so well known, with Yamaha’s well over a century of collective history in sound.
Using 130 years of collective knowledge, technology and research, Yamaha identified all the components needed and created one system. This overcomes challenges in implementation, configuration and room acoustics, and it’s a huge innovation for the industry. Through ADECIA, AV and IT teams no longer need costly, specialized integrator visits to adjust and equalize room audio.
Reduced time, spend and complexities — both from an installation and control standpoint — addresses that “new” end-user demand for ease and simplification discussed earlier. Only that demand isn’t new at all: Customers have been asking for audio in AV systems to become more simplified for years. With ADECIA, you can now easily configure a full-room UCC solution that’s user friendly and delivers the best audio — even in acoustically-challenging environments.
In a year or so, we hope we’ll all be able to say this: Gone are the days when you can only afford high-quality audio in just a few rooms. ADECIA helps AV/IT teams find more opportunities to add audio, the most critical component of collaboration, to more enterprise spaces. With it, audio in collaboration spaces is going to look (and sound) a whole lot different.
