In line with its centennial anniversary celebration this year, Japanese motorcycle giant Suzuki has dropped the drapes on the limited edition GSX-R1000R.
Highly noticeable in this limited-run flagship superbike is that it shares the same retro-inspired aesthetics as the GSX-RR MotoGP machine, as reflected in the traditional blue and slate silver color scheme.
This design pays homage to the Suzuki machines that started the brand's racing pursuits in the Grand Prix in 1960s.
Aside from its looks, the Suzuki GSX-R1000R—which has already won races and championships around UK, USA and Australia as well as the Senior Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man—also shares the same racing DNA with the GP version.
It has been fitted with the same variable valve timing system to boost both torque and peak power and has a myriad of technology to help drivers reach peak performance, including 10 traction control modes, a quickshifter and auto-blipper, launch control, and lean angle-sensitive ABS.
In a statement, Suzuki said that aside from the GSX-R1000R, a “new GSX-R series of models” will be released to various markets around the world to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
To note, Suzuki is now 100 years old from when their business started. However, it was only after 32 years of existence that they entered motorcycle production, and later, changed their name from Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co. to Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd..
Some of the iconic motorcycles of the 20th and 21st century under the brand are the complete GSX-R series—most notably the genre-defining 1985 GSX-R750F and the 2001 GSX-R1000 K1 - the GT750, GSX1100S Katana, and RGV250.
Back in 2017, Suzuki Philippines, one of the top four motorcycle brands in the country, brought the GSX-R1000R and GSX-R1000, SV650A naked bike and the GSX-S750 in their event dubbed as Royal Arrival: the new Suzuki Big Bikes 2017 Launch.
