The popular small SUV may be about to become more practical, with production of a five-door model said to begin next year.
A five-door variant of the Suzuki Jimny is tipped to go into production in 2021.
While rumours of a five-door Jimny first surfaced in 2018, a report from website GaadiWaadi suggests the model will be manufactured by Suzuki's Indian subsidiary from next year.
However, it claims the vehicles will be assembled with 'knock-down' kits coming from Japan – meaning production of a five-door Jimny may be established in Japan itself. If true, it would increase the chances of the car being sold in Australia.
The current three-door Suzuki Jimny has been a roaring success for the brand, with strong demand continuing to cause wait times of up to 12 months.
In April 2020, whispers of a five-door Jimny emerged out of India, also tipping local production to begin in 2021.
