The demand for the Suzuki Jimny continues at unprecedented levels after a record sales result in September.

The fun-size four-wheel-drive, the Suzuki Jimny, has set a new sales record in Australia, as the waiting list continues to stretch up to 12 months on certain models.

Suzuki has sold more Jimnys in the first nine months of 2020 (1474) than it did for the entire 2019 calendar year (1391).

The September 2020 result was an all-time monthly record for the Suzuki Jimny, with 325 reported as sold, accounting for one in four – or 25 per cent – of all Suzuki deliveries in Australia.

The Suzuki Jimny was the brand's second-best selling model last month behind the Vitara SUV and ahead of the Swift hatchback.

It was the third record month in a row for the Suzuki Jimny, as dealers report demand shows no signs of abating.

“People just keep coming in to buy them,” said one long-standing dealer. “I think as more of them appear in the traffic, people see them and want to buy one. If I could get more I would sell more.”

According to official figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), almost 3000 Suzuki Jimnys have been sold in Australia since the model went on sale in limited numbers in late 2018 as a 2019 model year.

To date, Suzuki has reported 2984 Jimnys as sold in less than two years. Initially the factory only planned to sell 100 examples per year. But Suzuki Australia pleaded for more.

After averaging a bit over 100 deliveries per month in the first six months of 2020, supply rose sharply in July (195), August (306), and September (325), all three of which were records for the nameplate.
