Yamaha Confirms Its Latest AVRs Suffer HDMI Bug That Impacts Xbox Series X And RTX 30 Gaming - Forbes

pret.indah.link

When the depressing news broke last weekend that the latest Denon and Marantz AV amps and receivers had been hit by a bug that prevented them passing 4K/120Hz graphics from Xbox Series X consoles and Nvidia RTX 30 graphics cards through their HDMI 2.1 ports, it seemed likely that Yamaha’s next generation of AVRs was going to be impacted too. Now, alas, that has been confirmed.

Yamaha has today replied to a question I sent them about the issue last week with the following (slightly but I guess understandably vague) statement:

“We've been made aware of an issue related to certain emerging video signals (4K/120Hz etc) from certain sources that can cause a loss of picture and sound when passed through the AVR.

However, from the time we first announced our 2020 AVRs, we have stated that we will support such new formats via future updates.

Please rest assured that we will address the reported issue as part of these future updates including a permanent solution as needed.”

Yamaha’s statement also confirms that the affected models are the RX-V6A, the RX-V4A, the TSR-700 and the TSR-400, and that no date for the availability of the ‘future updates’ is currently available.

I asked Yamaha in response to its statement if it was suggesting that it believed the issue (which is not confirmed to also affect PS5s) might be resolvable via a firmware update, contrary to previous expectations. The reply to this follow-up question, however, was that Yamaha can’t confirm the method of the permanent solution at this time.

With this in mind, Yamaha has promised to update me with more information as its next steps become clearer. I’m also waiting on more information from Denon and Marantz owner Sound United on its plans for resolving the problems - so keep an eye on my Forbes channel for further news.
