A hybrid assist system in the new model, combined with a new engine, should fix that. We suspect this will come in the form of the Insight sedan's Atkinson-cycle 1.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 107 hp and 99 lb-ft. Additional power comes from a pair of electric motors with 129 hp and 197 lb-ft. Combined, the Insight has 151 hp on tap.
A recent rendering based on spy shots shows the 2022 HR-V as a far more handsome crossover with styling taken directly from the Insight. The large front grille and fascia are immediate standouts. An expected black roof option will help give it an even sportier look. The outgoing 2021 HR-V may even soon have some enticing incentives to help dealers clear out stock ahead of the redesigned model's arrival.
