Main differences
For 2021, the Honda Ridgeline looks similar to the 2020 model, with a more upright grille flanked by new Led headlights and a thick chrome tying the two headlamps together. The hood features a power bulge, the grille sits more upright than before, with new LED headlights on either side and a thick chrome strip topped by a revised hood with a power bulge. All-wheel drive is now standard on all trim levels and interior changes include an upgraded infotainment system that now has an audio system volume knob.
2021 Honda Ridgeline

The 2021 Honda Ridgeline now offers all-wheel drive as standard equipment on all models. Other improvements for the 2021 model year include an updated interior with a new infotainment setup featuring sharper graphics and clearer icons and a physical volume knob for the audio. Also new is the button-button gear selector similar to that found on the Honda Pilot. The 8-inch screen size carries over from last year. Another cabin upgrade is new fabric seat inserts on the base level Sport model.
Practicality abounds on the Ridgeline. The rear seat bottom folds up so you can haul tall objects like a bicycle in the second row. Access to the cargo bed is through a unique 2-way tailgate that drops down or swings open to one side. There’s also below bed lockable storage. This bin includes drain plugs so it can serve as a built-in ice chest. Honda also offers a rear audio feature in the cargo space for tailgating.
With the standard AWD, Ridgeline comes with Intelligent Traction Management. This system adapts to various on- and off-road conditions by varying throttle application and torque distribution. It includes modes for Snow, Mud, Sand, and Normal pavement.
2020 Honda Ridgeline

The 2020 Honda Ridgeline saw a simplification of the trims, reducing the count to four: Sport, RTL, RTL-E, and Black Edition. The Black Edition, as the name implies, sports black wheels and black-out body trim pieces. The two lower trims, R and RTL, are front-drive unless optional AWD is specified.
The 2020 model year is also the first for Ridgeline to offer the Honda Sensing suite of driver and safety assists as standard equipment. It includes collision-mitigation braking, active cruise control, road departure mitigation, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. The 2020 Ridgeline also features for the first time a 9-speed automatic transmission and an 8-inch infotainment screen.
Honda Ridgeline Powertrain
Both the 2021 and 2020 Honda Ridgeline feature the same 3.5-liter V6 engine, which makes 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It mates to a 9-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy for AWD versions for both 2021 and 2020 is 21 mpg combined on 18 city/24 highway mpg. The front-drive 2020 Honda Ridgeline gets slightly better mileage with an EPA rating of 22 mpg combined on 19 city/26 highway mpg.
Driving the Honda Ridgeline
The Honda Ridgeline driving experience is closer to that of the Honda Pilot midsize SUV which shares the same basic platform. As such, it’s much more carlike in ride and handling than your typical pickup truck. Power from the V6 is ample and the 9-speed automatic is smooth and seamless in its shifts. The addition of AWD as standard on the 2021 model enhances both its road-holding and gives an extra measure of surefootedness in bad weather. With the additional modes, the Ridgeline does have some off-road capability. The Ridgeline is quiet and comfortable while still offering the kind of cargo-carrying capability you expect from a midsize pickup truck. It’s the most civilized vehicle of its type.
Honda Ridgeline Pricing
Prices did not climb much with the new model. The biggest price difference is in the base Sport and RTL models. The Sport is now $36,490, up from $33,900, while the RTL is now $39,470 versus $36,290. If you consider that AWD cost $2,000 last year, the price increase is less than $600 on comparably equipped models. The RTL-E and Black Edition models see a $400 bump from 2020’s respective $42,020 and $43,520. Destination is $1,095 extra.
