Oh My Heavens Just Look at the 2022 Honda Grom - RoadandTrack.com

The Honda Grom is basically the favorite motorcycle of the Road & Track staff. This tiny, cheerful machine embodies everything we love about Honda: Motorized irreverence in a plucky pint-sized package, a device that's about a billion times more fun than its spec sheet would indicate. (For those who don't know the recipe: Honda minibike, 125-cc single-cylinder, 55 mph if you're lucky. An absolute hoot at any speed.)

Honda gave it a full redesign for 2022, and somehow, it looks even more fun. I mean, just look at this thing! It's a miniature street fighter, all the strut and swagger of a naked sportbike in 2/3rds scale. You just wanna hug it, and at 231 lbs with all the fluids, you probably could.

The 2022 model year brings some big changes. The engine is still a fuel-injected 125-cc air-cooled single-cylinder, but Honda nudged the compression ratio to 10.0:1. The massaged motor now meets Euro 5 emissions standards, and it gets a real spin-on oil filter instead of the old screen-style setup.

And it gets a five-speed transmission! With one more ratio in the 'box, Honda was able to put a larger sprocket on the rear wheel (now 38 teeth), which should give the baby bike a little more get-up-and-go without hurting top speed.

A five-speed Grom. You could maybe even commute with it!

The third-gen Grom—which was unveiled in Europe last year, but finally confirmed for the U.S. market this month—features completely new styling. The slimmed-down bodywork is held on by six exposed fasteners per side, making it easy to swap out the four plastic body panels for simple customization. The engine, swingarm, wheels, and new two-piece exhaust have all been restyled, too, with a new aesthetic that's technical, tough, and cute, all at the same time.

Fuel capacity increases a touch to 1.6 gallons, and a new LCD instrument panel features a gear indicator. Honda says the base-model Grom weighs in at 227 lbs with all fluids, or four pounds heavier with the optional ABS.

The base-model 2022 Grom costs $3399, available in Queen Bee yellow or metallic matte black. The Grom SP, in that gorgeous pearl white livery with red and blue accents (like a mini Africa Twin), costs $3499, while the top-spec Grom ABS, available only in Candy Blue, stickers at $3599—no price increase over last year's model. The 2022s will start showing up in dealerships this May.
