Yamaha-powered White Shark for the next-level of recreational adventure 24.03.2021: Yamaha Motor Europe’s latest boat partner collaboration guarantees that from now until 2026, all White Shark boats distributed in Europe will be fitted exclusively with a single or twin rig of Yamaha outboard engines.

Yamaha Motor Europe’s latest boat partner collaboration guarantees that from now until 2026, all White Shark boats distributed in Europe will be fitted exclusively with a single or twin rig of Yamaha outboard engines.

French builder, White Shark, burst onto the European scene in the early 1990s with a range of powerboats based on some of the most iconic luxury American Powerboats on the market. They developed a reputation as premium sea going craft ideal for day boating, fishing and family recreation, as well as for robust offshore commercial applications – and when premium Cannes-based importer, French Boat Market, took ownership of the brand in 2020, they did so with a very explicit intention: “To innovate in the pursuit of an exceptional boating experience.”

Yamaha is convinced that, with its tried-and-tested boat building formula and its established European fan base, White Shark is a seamless fit for its official, customer centric boat partner fleet which offers something for every type of boat owner. As a practical but luxurious fishing-style craft, combining Mediterranean finesse with an offshore hull that excels in the challenging waters of northern Europe, White Shark’s appeal is almost universal. But with Yamaha on board, its multi-faceted fleet is set to become more versatile than ever.

Fabrice Lacoume, Marine Director of Yamaha Motor Europe explains
‘‘We are very excited to begin this long term agreement with White Shark. Our company mission as Yamaha Motor is giving our customers experiences of exceptional value thanks to the state-of-the-art quality and performance of our products. The customer-centric innovations available in the Yamaha Outboard range, combined with the DNA of the iconic brand White Shark and the significant range of boats is sure to deliver this experience to boat owners who are in search of a more refined adventure.‘

Whether the customer needs quick-response agility, user-friendly cruising, premium performance or class-leading refinement, the award-winning outboards of Yamaha’s "High Power" and "Premium" product lines will ensure each of the nine White Shark models performs at its very best. And by improving the calibre, reliability and usability of each boat in the range, Yamaha’s involvement will empower each new White Shark customer with the confidence to explore that bit more and to take their adventure that little bit further.
The iconic Multi-aspect powerboat packages

White Shark’s fleet, which features Centre Console (CC) and Sports Cabin (SC) craft from 21 to 30 feet in length, is divided into two key product lines. The White Shark Origin range is the purist’s version of the legendary White Shark craft that customers have come to know and love over the course of nearly 30 years.

The new Evo range, which leverages the expertise of renowned naval architect, Jean-Jacques Coste, features the same exaggerated bow flare for which White Shark’s offshore hulls are justly famous, but takes the beam even further forward for extra recreational flexibility. The Evo line currently comprises just two boats – the 240 CC and 240 SC – but it will be extended with both larger and smaller models in the coming seasons.

While White Shark anticipates that Yamaha’s V6 models from 300hp to 225hp will account for 80 per cent of all outboards fitted to White Shark transoms, the new alliance will involve at least ten key models in the Yamaha line-up, from the industry-defining XTO 425hp V8 to the lightweight four-cylinder 115hp. And with Yamaha’s Helm Master EX (HMEX) system now available on single rig engines from 150hp, that will bring White Shark customers the chance to enjoy premium technologies like stress-free joystick control on every boat in the fleet.

Having filtered through from Yamaha’s flagship XTO 425hp V8, the ergonomic sophistication of the new HMEX joystick means smoother shifting and more intuitive operation in tightly packed marinas. Whether at speed or at a standstill, it also promises optimised control through fine-tuning of the autopilot facility and easy positioning adjustments within SetPoint.

Yamaha’s latest technologies will also help White Shark customers maximise space on compact, single-rig powerboats like the 210, 230 and 250. With Digital Electric Steering (DES) available on all of Yamaha’s Digital Electronic Control outboards, the aft part of the cockpit can now be tidied up through the removal of the various hoses and steering pumps associated with hydraulic steering systems. The addition of a new flush side-mount control option means that owners will also be able to enjoy a more rewarding use of space at the helm, as well as the transom.

Mr Lionel Vergnes, White Shark CEO & Founder, said: “
We’ve chosen to partner with Yamaha because of their unwavering commitment to the things that really matter. Just as our boats are underpinned by tough, trustworthy hulls that inspire comfort and confidence, so the engineering innovation of Yamaha’s outboards is designed to make boating more intuitive, more reliable and more fun.

I have no doubt that, with Yamaha on board, we will be able to lay the foundation for a more complete and compelling White Shark experience than ever before.”

Collaborative design solutions for a better ownership experience

Designed and built for the exposed Atlantic waters of France’s northwest, the proven toughness of White Shark boats has already seen them forge a stellar reputation throughout Europe as reliable offshore companions for day boaters, cruisers and all-weather fishermen.

But in addition to optimising the performance, reliability and usability of White Shark’s current fleet, the new partnership provides White Shark access to a wealth of expertise and experience within Yamaha when rigging, testing and developing vessels.

As Mr Vergnes is keen to stress, the implications of that are very exciting for the customer: “Our association with Yamaha will have major benefits in terms of matching the power, transom weight, prop choice and interface options to the boat and its intended application. But the fact that we also now have access to the expertise of the Yamaha team for ongoing product development means that we can look forward to a very positive evolution of the White Shark ownership experience, at every size bracket, from our existing 21-foot day boat to our future 38-foot flagship.”

The partnership delivers the customer a finished package that is not merely the conjoining of a stock boat and an off-the-shelf engine, but a fully resolved product that marries the expertise of each company in every element of the design, build and rigging. This collaboration in the very highest level of design and development collaboration between the two ambitious brands, empowers the customer to truly embrace the adventure.
