Yamaha’s next launch could be retro-modern premium commuter based on the FZ’s base framework. A new leak online of the type approval certificate for the FZ-X has revealed crucial specifications of this upcoming motorcycle. This could well be the same motorcycle that was spotted testing a few months earlier, but a confirmation is likely to come in the months running up to the launch. Expect this new FZ-X to command a slight premium over the standard motorcycle.
Based on spy-shots that were leaked earlier, the FZ-X is likely to be a retro-modern motorcycle, and not an entry spec adventure bike like previously speculated. Revealed as part of the type approval certificates is the fact that it will continue to employ the 12.2bhp motor from the FZ that makes 12.2bhp and 13.6Nm of torque. Hardware will include 17-inch alloys, 282mm front disc, 220mm rear disc, single channel ABS, front telescopic fork and seven-step adjustable suspension at the back.
What is interesting, is the fact that the FZ-X will be 30mm longer, 35mm taller and 5 mm narrower than the FZ, although the wheelbase remains crucially unchanged. More details on the FZ-X will be out soon, as will information on another 250 in works at Yamaha. Watch this space.
