TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Jaelin Howell is a finalist for yet another award as the junior midfielder was named one of four finalists for the Honda Award. The Other nominees are Santa Clara’s Alex Loera, TCU’s Emily Alvarado and Penn State’s Ally Schlegel.

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 45 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2021 Honda Cup which will be presented on a telecast on CBS Sports Network, on June 28 at 9 pm eastern.

The soccer finalists were selected by a panel of coaches and experts from the United Soccer Coaches Association. The Honda Sport award winner for soccer will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

Howell was recently named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist and a United Soccer Coaches first-team All-American after leading the Seminoles to the national championship game. Howell was named first-team All-ACC and the ACC Midfielder of the Year in the fall. From her holding midfield position, Howell helped the Seminoles record nine shutouts in 15 games.

Florida State has had seven Honda Award finalists and one Honda Award winner, Natalia Kuikka in 2018.
