New Yamaha Zuma 125 offroad scooter revealed
Yamaha retails two scooters in India -- Fascino 125 and RayZR -- with the former being a retro-styled offering while the latter being the sportier scooter in the Japanese brand's lineup. However, the company also retails the RayZR Street Rally scooter here which is meant to be a slightly rugged version and apparently more suitable for our roads. But globally, the brand has a more off-road-focused scooter in its lineup; we are referring to Zuma 125 which is sold in international markets like the USA. Yamaha has recently taken the wraps off the new Zuma 125 scooter and has even improved the two-wheeler's touring capabilities. In its new avatar, the Zuma 125 has also received a significant design overhaul as compared to the predecessor, making it appear quirkier than ever.
The new Yamaha Zuma 125 has an angular front apron that houses an asymmetric headlight setup. The raised front mudguard, high step board, side panels, upswept exhaust, and underbody protection adds to the overall rugged aesthetics of the scooter. The Zuma 125 rides of block-pattern tyres that offer sufficient traction over rough terrains while the carrier plate has more load-bearing capacity than before. The new Yamaha Zuma 125 comes equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster that offers all the essential readouts like speed, trip meter, odometer, fuel gauge, etc. There's also a USB charging port as standard.
Powering Zuma 125 is a 125 cc liquid-cooled engine that uses VVA (variable valve actuation) technology. The powerplant puts out around 9 Nm of peak torque and around 9 bhp of maximum power. The suspension duties on the off-road-focused scooter are tended to by 33 mm telescopic forks with rear dual shock absorbers while the braking power comes from 245 mm front and 230 mm rear disc brakes.
Now, if you are wondering if the Zuma 125 will ever reach our shores then the chances of that happening are quite slim. We say so because the Zuma 125 will command quite a premium as compared to its rivals because of the hardware. Secondly, Yamaha already is selling RayZR Street Rally as the rugged offering in the country, which doesn't leave much space for a scooter like Zuma in the company's India lineup.
