The Honda Meet vs. Florida Pt. II - Super Street Network

pret.indah.link

For years, the Honda community experienced a pretty significant divide in terms of car building styles that seemed to be based heavily upon your region. "East coast cars are like this, West coast cars are like that" and spin-off arguments that drilled all the way down to how much cars are driven, how fast they are, which use more authentic parts, etc., took place exhaustively on forum chats.

Quality from Every Corner

Today, you really can't decipher which part of the country a build hails from based on a photo, not with so many well-executed examples stemming from every state, not just the left and right coasts. Internet access and multiple sources for imported goods make it possible to build a car that looks and feels right at home in any part of the world.. Florida's Honda community, which, for a time, flew under the radar in an effort to curb widespread Honda theft, is currently thriving. The caliber of builds spotted at events like The Honda Meet are proof that this group is as dedicated as ever and the level of quality and cohesiveness simply can't be denied. Keep in mind that this is a meet, not a full blown car show, yet most of what you'll see would have no issues being stuffed into a convention center with judges and clipboards hovering around.

Let's Continue

In part I, we took a look at some of the cars that really caught our attention, but there were so many more that we made a second part to highlight a handful of others. Even with both parts, there are still plenty more that deserve a closer look, so enjoy the attached gallery.

@profit_child's supercharged AP1 was featured in Super Street in 2017 and it looked better than ever at The Honda Meet. Bright white TE37 over J's Racing brakes on Nardo Grey paint work so well together.

Before the FK8 ever broke ground and arrived in the U.S. with its turbocharged heart, the FK2 was already a thing. Serving as the 4th generation of the CTR family, and based on the 9th gen. blueprint, the K20C1-powered 5-door only spanned a few years before the global FK8 platform came into play. Spotting one in the U.S., like this black example perched on Regamaster Evo, is rare. The bulging fenders and side vents look like aftermarket additions but are in fact OEM.

Those with a short memory might not recall the massive backlash that the FK8 took when it was first introduced in prototype form, followed shortly after with the production version that was very similar. Like most car debuts these days, anger and resentment are usually first, followed by tepid acceptance and eventually, a vehicle is embraced. This R features a Spoon Sports treatment, most noted by its front bumper replacement and SW388 wheels.

The factory Type R plastic engine cover has been ditched and the valvecover given the familiar Spoon color treatment which offers some contrast to the dry carbon fiber intake.

When it comes to Type R talk, most will still think of this duo. No other set of chassis have stirred up as much inspiration and emulation in the Honda world as the EK9 and DC2 Type R.

There weren't a ton of Accord wagons ever produced but it's still surprising that we don't see more modded versions. This wagon holds a special place in the hearts of those that helped to rebuild it after its owner passed away and it's attended this meet in the past. The decal on the rear doors hints at the H-swap under the hood and the multi-piece Volk rollers look just right.

Remember when V6-swapped Civics were rarely attempted and when they were, looked as if they were about to fall out of the bay? Much more common today, there are plenty of aftermarket parts to support the cross-platform proposition and versions like this, which introduce boost and look ready to do battle, take things a step further.

Floating headlights, - or, removal of the upper radiator support, supplemented by a custom fabricated filler - is gaining popularity and could be found on numerous cars in attendance. While some just prefer the look; others use it as an opportunity to fit cooling and ducting components that might not have played nicely with the factory support piece.

A very loud, wild style, but under the bright yellow and purple is an Accord Euro R. Flared factory fenders and a hotter version of the H22, this compact body style is sorely missed as current and future Accord and Civic sedans take on much larger architecture.
