The newest Honda Civic sedan is already in dealerships, and the hatchback model is nigh—so, when can we expect the sporty Civic Si models to arrive? The wait won't be long, according to leaked internal Honda documents that appeared on civic11forum.com, which reveal that the Si will closely follow the new hatch this fall.
According to the timing outlined in the leak, the 2022 Honda Civic Si will reach dealerships in October, one month after the 2022 Civic hatchback. Timing for the new Civic Type R, the most powerful 11th-gen Civic variant, isn't included in the documents.
Why wait for the Civic Si? For starters, it'll offer a manual transmission. The new Civic sedan is automatic-only; Honda has said it'll continue to offer the three-pedal option for the Civic hatchback, Si, and Type R models. That makes it likely that the new Si will be available solely as a hatchback, a move that would more closely link it with the Type R above it in the lineup. Previously, the Si was offered as a sedan or coupe, but given the former's transmission limitation and the latter's death with the Civic's 11th-gen redesign, the hatchback bodystyle seems preordained.
We also don't have details on the Si's engine, though like the regular Civic, it could likely carry over its powertrain from the 10th-gen model, albeit with some extra power. Look for a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, again mated to a six-speed manual and driving the front wheels through a limited-slip differential. We'll find out closer to October, however. Buckle in.
