The race was another thrilling Moto3 showdown, with a huge lead pack fighting for position around this tight and twisty circuit. There were many incidents, some of which had a real effect on the result, including a pass that Jeremy Alcoba (Indonesian Racing Gresini Moto3 Honda NSF250RW) made on the penultimate lap. The 19-year-old Spaniard exceeded track limits before the manoeuvre, which moved him into third place. However, he was sanctioned one place for his track-limits offence, which demoted him to fourth and promoted Foggia to third.
Foggia’s third podium of 2021 (the 20-year-old Italian won at Mugello and finished second at Jerez) moves him from tenth in the World Championship to sixth.
Alcoba was disappointed to lose his podium but accepted the penalty with good grace. Fifth place went to Andrea Migno (Rivacold Snipers Team Honda NSF250RW), the 25-year-old Italian finishing less than half a second behind the winner.
Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corse Honda NSF250RW) also had a great ride, leading on many occasions and finishing seventh, just 0.647 seconds behind the winner. However, the 23-year-old from Chiba was demoted one place for exceeding track limits on the final lap.
The incidents during the 27 laps included the collision that took out Yuki Kunii (Honda Team Asia Honda NSF250RW) during the early stages. Kunii was riding a great race in the front-running group until he was knocked off. That was a major disappointment for the 18-year-old from Setagaya who stood to learn plenty from riding a full race with the leaders.
Andi Farid Izdihar (Honda Team Asia Honda NSF250RW) recovered from a difficult qualifying session yesterday to cross the finish line in 15th place, for another World Championship point. The 23-year-old Indonesian made some mistakes in the early stages, which lost him positions, but other riders dropping out of the race moved him up the order.
Moto3 now heads to Assen, for next week’s Dutch TT.
