The divorce between Esteban García and Yamaha was announced today, with Maverick Viñales now having Silvano Galbusera as crew chief, something the rider explained as strategic related.
In a conversation with journalists, the #12 talked about what led to the split with García: ‘Basically I think Yamaha tried to find a different strategy, because for me it was sometimes difficult to find the best setup for the bike and with a good balance and in the last four races I was really fast in FP1 but then it was bad. The only thing Yamaha wants to do is give me the best and give me the best and I think that’s why they forced this change’.
He then explained that he spoke with García, with whom he has a very close friendship: ‘I spoke with Esteban about this because first of all he is my friend. Before being my mechanic team leader he is my friend and we have a very good relationship. I went to his house for dinner many times, I know his wife, his daughter, I know them very well and certainly our relationship will continue even if he is not my crew chief because he is more than that, and this change to it hurts me too, but on the other hand I understand very well that we need to extract as much as possible’.
