“Over the years Army Of Darkness has used many different suspension suppliers to
good effect. For 2020 we decided on K-Tech IDC fork cartridges installed into modified Yamaha forks along with K-Tech rear shocks. We debated for a long time on spring rates before finally electing to go with 0.95 fork springs and a 9.0 rear spring. With the BMWs we ran in recent years we had to keep the bikes in a very narrow range within the stroke and, therefore, ended up with some stout springs to keep the geometry neutral.

“With the Yamaha we knew we could go softer in the front. However, that was offset by the knowledge that Josh Hayes successfully ran crazy-stiff springs in his Yamaha during his last AMA Superbike Championship-winning year. The more grip the tires have, and the harder the rider is pushing those tires, the more spring is needed to hold the bike up.

“I figured that in endurance we wouldn’t be pushing as hard as Hayes was while trying to stay ahead of Cameron Beaubier, so we went with what we knew had worked in the past…”
